He Loves the Garmin!

I have been looking at GPS units since Bill mentioned that he thought one might come in handy for locating the sprinkler heads. Well, I haven't acquired the one that might be right for that job, but I did find one for him to use. The Garmin nĂ¼vi 360 Pocket Vehicle GPS Navigator with Maps for North America He loves it!

The setup was painless. Basically turned it on and within a short while it chatted with the satellites and calibrated. We've used it a few times around town, just to get the hang of it. Great stuff.

It did get confused a couple of times, trying to send us out of our way going home (luckily we weren't lost ;-) we knew how to get there). Another time it wasn't really confused, Bill chose a Kohl's in Orlando instead of in town here, which explained why it wanted us to get on the interstate instead of just heading up the road. If you ignore the turn it tells you, the unit immediately begins to recalculate the route. This one has bluetooth capability (hands free through the unit) and does voice turn-by-turn. Bill loved the fact that it got his contacts from the phone instead of having to fiddle with setting them up. We also love the fact that when we're in Orlando somewhere and have the desire to go to Macaroni Grill, we don't have to give up trying to find it. We can just look at restaurants and find it!

I look forward to using it when he needs some shut-eye on the way to New York. Then I won't be so nervous about missing an exchange or turn (maybe). I think it's supposed to be traffic enabled, but haven't really looked into it yet.

So, I have finally FINALLY found a gift for Bill that he actually likes (yay me). Happy Pre-Birthday!
