Rant: How to be a bad web host
This post has been coming for a while... my horrid web hosting experience, thanks to IPowerWeb.
They shut my account down, quite unexpectedly to me, and inconveniently around my birthday (happy birthday to me). When I inquired, they told me that my account was "seriously past due". I never received a single renewal notice. The issue turned out to be that my account was setup with my old email address, and I neglected to update it. My credit card also happened to expire. So, they shut me down and said that I can resume my activities after giving them a payment, plus a $50 reactivation fee. What?! I don't think so. After numerous pointless exchanges with their billing team, I gave up the fight and have these things to say about this horrid hosting site.
1. They ONLY do business via email. I requested a phone number for management and was told to send an email to feedback@we-r-crap.com (ok, it's not really we-r-crap)
2. If they aren't able to reach you via email, it's your problem. They don't have resourceful people who can CALL a customer to let them know that their credit card expired, or they can't MAIL a letter to their customer to notify early on that there is a problem. They apparently do not pay attention to Undeliverable server messages either.
3. They don't care about the customer. Correspondence is always, "Dear Customer, we're not sorry we are retarded". Not, "Dear Karen, we're so sorry we were lazy and didn't try to find another way to contact you".
I'm sure a few weeks ago I had quite a few choice expletives to color this up with, and more to rant about, but now I'm done with it. I have yet to write my complaint to feedback@we-r-crap.com. Someday. Unfortunately, I still have a site hosted there, although it's pretty much a dead one, nothing even appears on the index page.
I'm completely satisfied with my new web host. They are wonderful to work with and you know what? They know my name is Karen.
