Furloughs, layoffs, etc.

We live in some spooky economic times. I am almost in a panic over how much my retirement is no longer worth. I have had anxiety the last few days with work and the almost $6M shortfall with our library system budget. Yesterday, we found out that they were proposing furlough/closure of branches combo to the board. Even then, we don't know what's gonna happen. The communities will rally to save their libraries (and they should) and the board will almost certainly cave in. What really ticks me off is the union's inability to see the bigger picture. The picture that includes the fact that rejecting furloughs will result in layoffs of hundreds of people. Are they really that narrowminded and selfish? I just wish the decision was already made so that we can just get this waiting over with.

On, the other hand, poor sis and her work woes are worse than mine, so I guess I shouldn't complain...

My mood: thankful for weekends (and the fact that I have them AND workdays) --- I can't believe I just said that!
