Broken hearted
Today, I found out that one of our dear patrons passed away.
Stan was a gem. He and his wife came in every other week. They would come in, we'd chat, they'd pickup their holds, give us their copy of the NYT book review and place a few more requests. They frequenly dropped by to give us Costco goodies as they made their way home from a shopping trip. I still have taped to my monitor, a list of books I was supposed to order for him when they got into the system.
On Monday, they stopped by. I could hear them chatting with the LA at the desk. I usually step out of my office to say hi, but this time I didn't because I was busy ordering books before the deadline Tuesday. I figured, I would say hi next time. There is no next time for Stan.
I was just talking to a friend about different positions she had interviewed for. One was a lateral move, money was the same, but a better work environment. The second position was a promotion, but was potentially stressful and not as flexible for her family life. Money is just money. There are far more important things in life, mainly family and friends. I should have listened to my own advice and took the time to say hello to two lovely people.
My heart goes out to his wife. I hope she finds peace, strength and comfort in her family and friends.
And this is for Stan: Good-bye dear friend. I'm sorry I didn't get to say hello or goodbye one last time. I hope you enjoy many wonderful tales wherever you are.
My mood: sad-- need hugs
